Sam Houston Memorial Museum and Republic of Texas Presidential Library

Welcome to the Sam Houston Memorial Museum and Republic of Texas Presidential Library!

Update: Fall 2024

Sam Houston Memorial Museum and Republic of Texas Presidential Library LogoWe are a part of Sam Houston State University and dedicated to preserving the memory of Sam Houston (1793-1863) and his times on a fifteen-acre complex.

TRYING TO FIND US: One thing staff has noticed more and more, visitors are relying on some sort of map app on their phone to get to the museum complex causing some confusion over where to park and start your visit. There are three locations you can check-in, pay admission and grab a museum map:

WHERE TO PARK: Limited parking is available by the Sam Houston Memorial Museum and Wigwam Neosho Museum Store while there is plenty of parking available at the Katy & E. Don Walker, Sr. Education Center. You are welcome to park either inside the museum grounds, if spaces are available, or at the Walker Education Center – just keep in mind that our museum grounds are spread out over fifteen acres and there will be a bit of walking!  Bus and RV Parking is available at the Walker Education Center.

OPERATIONS AND WALKING TRAILS:  In May, we had multiple, catastrophic rainstorms through Huntsville.  A couple of our buildings sustained damage while some of our trails washed out.  We are still in the process of getting everything repaired, so at any given time we may have to close a building or parking on the grounds. We are sorry about these interruptions that may occur.  We will do our best to still make your experience at the museum a good one!
