Museum Hours

  • Sunday: 12:00 pm – 4:30 pm
  • Monday: Closed
  • Tuesday – Saturday: 9:00 am – 4:30 pm

Additionally, you may visit just the grounds for free from dawn to dusk every day.

Admission

  • Adults: $6
  • Seniors (65+): $5
  • SHSU Faculty/Staff: $4
  • Children (6-18): $4
  • Children (5 and under): Free
  • SHSU Students with ID: Free
  • Veterans: Free

Admission includes access to the Memorial Museum, Walker Education Center, historic houses and outdoor sites. Special exhibitions are included at no extra cost.

There are three locations you can check in, pay admission and grab a museum map:

  • Sam Houston Memorial Museum (1836 Sam Houston Avenue)
  • Wigwam Neosho Museum Store (located in the center of the Museum Grounds, next to the Steamboat House)
  • Katy & E. Don Walker, Sr. Education Center (1402 19th Street)

Directions & Parking

Ample parking is available at the Katy & E. Don Walker, Sr. Education Center.

Limited parking is available near the Sam Houston Memorial Museum and Wigwam Neosho Museum Store.

Bus and RV parking is available at the Walker Education Center.

Exhibits currently have no audio, but information panels are available on-site.

Enjoy Our Museum Grounds

The museum grounds cover 15 acres of General Sam Houston’s original 200-acre farm and include the Guerrant Cabin, Bear Bend Cabin and Duck Pond. Tour the grounds for free any time from dawn to dusk.
